Showcase Sunday #5

Showcase SundayThe aim of Showcase Sunday is to highlight our newest books or book related swag and to see what everyone else has received for review, borrowed from libraries, bought in bookshops or downloaded on to eReaders each week. Hosted by Books, Biscuits and Tea.

This week I actually received two orders which I placed quite a few weeks ago. I love getting packages in the mail!

Unearthly by Cynthia Hand
Soo considering I loved this book so much you would have thought I already owned it… Yeahh I only just purchased it. I borrowed it from the library when I read it and have only just gotten around to buying it myself. I can’t wait for Boundless!

Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout
This book and it’s sequel had been blowing up the book blogging community a few weeks ago. That’s how I discovered it. Everyone is raving about it and it had so many five and four star reviews I knew I would like it.
I’ve heard her Covenant series is good. I’m wondering if I’ll like it. Have you read that series? Did you enjoy it?

Sookie Stackhouse 1 – 8 (box set) by Charlaine Harris
I decided to get the boxset – it has the first eight books in it – because it was cheaper than getting each book separately. The books are kind of small but to be honest I don’t actually mind. Which is weird for me. When I get the next books I will probably mind a little bit that they will be bigger than these, but oh well, this box set was cheaper than buying each book separately and since there are so many books I thought it was this or not at all! Although, I am kind of annoyed that all the books aren’t the same cover line! Ahh well, I’m not sure if the recent books are the same cover line either.

I can’t wait to read Obsidian and the Sookie Stackhouse books! So excited to finally have them on my shelves. And Unearthly looks really pretty next to Hallowed!

What books did you add to your shelves this week?

  1. Packages in the mail are the best! It feels like Christmas! lol. Great haul! I’ve been wanting to read Obsidian and Unearthly for a long time (: Everyone seems to really like the Sookie Stackhouse books. I never read series that TV shows are based off (I don’t know why I’m so hesitant about it “/) but I think I might give this series ago (:

    Hope you enjoy your books!

    • You definitely need to read Unearthly sometime soon! I can’t wait to read Obsidian.

Do you watch the TV shows if they’re based off of books? I could see why you wouldn’t though, TV shows can be so different and you either love or hate either the books of the show because one’s better than the other. Although, I really enjoyed the first Sookie Stackhouse book as well as the first season of True blood!

  2. I love getting packages too :) Some great books there! I love brand new books as a treat ;) I love how you explain why you have bought the books etc :) Gives a bit of an added insight into someone’s reading :)

I have only received review e-books this week, but they are books that i really want to read :)

    Happy reading
I love your blog *new subbie*

    • Thanks :) I like to make it a little more personal and also so people are interested in actually commenting rather than just saying ‘Cool books!’ etc.

      I’ll check your post out!

  3. Awesome haul! Packages are always so excited!
I really want to read Unearthly and Obsidian. And I’ve also heard how amazing Jennifer L. Armentrout is supposed to be!
Enjoy all and happy reading! Thanks for stopping by! :]

    • I definitely recommend Unearthly! I loved it and now praise it to all book lovers haha. Yeah, I’ve recently heard how amazing she is supposed to be so I’m looking into her other books like the Covenant series to see if I will like them.

  4. Great haul, though I have to agree.. If the other books from #9 upwards have smaller or larger covers, I’d probably freak out! Plus, yeah, the coverstyle is different! Not just the pictures, but also the font! :( Evil people! But then, the content (hopefully haha) doesn’t change and truth be told, I’m pretty sure I’d have bought the boxset, too, if I hadn’t had a friend to borrow all the books from, because this series costs some serious money. :/

    Anyway, happy reading!!

    • Yeahh when it comes to that time I might freak about it…

Ohh I only just noticed that as well! Whyyy would you do that with a box set!?

      Thanks for stopping by :)

    • Thanks! I also loved Unearthly, it’s currently my only five star review… I have yet to read Hallowed but I hear its heart breaking… So I’m wondering whether to wait nearer the time Boundless will be released or to just go ahead and read it! I want to read it so bad!

  5. I tried to read Unearthly and couldnt get into it… maybe it was during my “not for me” book slump and everything I read just sounded horrible. I shall try it again. Obsidian…. I keep seeing that title everywhere I look now… I guess I’ll have to check it out…

    • Ohh that’s interesting, I have seen a few reviews where people did not like it at all. I think when I picked up this book I was in a very open mood, so it took me by surprise because I did expect to not like it as I had just finished Fallen and really did not like that. But I had decided to give it a go with my thoughts being along the lines of: “It really can’t get any worse than the book I’ve just finished.”…

I definitely know those moods where you just can’t get into any book. Or you’re reading a book but you’re thinking about wanting to read another book and can’t get that book out of your mind. … Ahh that sounds like a metaphor for cheating… It’s book cheating instead??

Obsidian sounds interesting, I just know I’ll like it because the summary makes me feel giddy… But I’m not expecting a deep or moving book, so if it is that then I’ll be pleasantly surprised (Or maybe I will be pleasantly disappointed). If it’s not then I will be fine with that. I do have a feeling it may not be your type of book though. Mainly because of your hesitation haha.

      • “It really can’t get any worse than the book I’ve just finished.”…

“I do have a feeling it may not be your type of book though. Mainly because of your hesitation haha.”
You seemt o know me already. haha. We shall see I’ll await your review.
