Feature and Follow #5

Feature & Follow is a blog hop hosted by Parajunkee & Alison Can Read. The purpose is to meet new people and gain more followers in the book blogging community.

NOTE: You can follow me via adding your email in the WordPress follow box to the right or feel free to follow me via RSS Feed or Linky! Buttons for those are to the right too.

Q: What would you do over if you were to start your blog again from scratch?

A: Honestly? I think I would use blogger instead of wordpress.

Purely because the free version of blogger doesn’t seem to have as many limits as wordpress.com, and I don’t think I’m going to move over to wordpress.org for a while yet as it sounds a little complicated for me right now.

For example wordpress.com doesn’t allow java or flash or certain codes etc because of security measures. Which is completely fair enough and understandable!

Still, that means I can’t use rafflecopter or the various versions of linky tools (The list thingy’s) on my blog, I can link to linky tools but can’t display the list. I’m not sure if I can link to rafflecopter but I’m going to figure that out so I can see what my options for hosting give-a-ways are. But that also means it’s one extra click that could be off putting for passing through readers.

My only option is to host my own blog. I’m still learning the ins and outs of blogging so I know that won’t happen for at least a while yet. I definitely hope it happens sometime though :)

Still, I wouldn’t change anything else. I’ve had lots of fun since I started this blog! I do think I need to find a comfortable way of balancing my blog and the rest of my life though.. I spend so much time on here! Haha.

What would you do differently?

Miss J

  1. hmm, good answer! I have blogger, but that’s only luck of the draw because I think it was the first free site recommended to me when I started thinking about doing a blog. I’ve heard of quite a few people switching over to wordpress, so I guess it just depends. Old follower from last week :)

    • I also have to say that most of the book community is on blogger/blogspot or hosts their own blog. And there’s no option for GFC on wordpress now that they stopped that. Which I think some bloggers only like to follow through GFC :/

I think people switch over to the self hosted wordpress.org, which I hear is pretty good? So I guess that’s a positive for the fact that I’m using the free wordpress right now!

  2. I have blogger, too. It’s just where I started because a friend of mine got me into blogging and she used blogger. I’m really glad I did, though. Everything I’ve heard about wordpress is that it’s more difficult/complicated! Great answer! My FFs are at Musings on Fantasia and LKHill. Happy Friday! :D

  3. I just have to say that your blog layout is so, so pretty! Love it! <3
Anyway, I was about to change to wordpress, but (me being super lazy) I thought it was to much work and didn't want to risk losing any of my followers or anything like that. Oh and I also followed you back!

    • Thank you! :)
Fair enough! I think that’s one thing that’s good is that when I do transfer to self hosted I shouldn’t lose any of my followers! I think lol.
      Yay!

  4. Hmm, maybe I’ll stick with blogger then! I had thought about wordpress since the free template seem so much more sleeker and nicer (your blog looks gorgeous!) but I’m not ready for something more complicated right now.

Thank you for visiting my FF post! I’m following you through Linky and email!

    • Hmm I find worpdress.com easy to run because I know a little more than the basics of html and I like making my own graphics. But I do think self hosting will be more complicated, At least above my knowledge of CSS/Html etc! I would love to learn though, I find that stuff fun!

      Awesome, thanks for following :)

  5. This is why I moved my blog from WP to blogger. It was a big step because I already had readers on WP but the limitations were to much for me and I can’t afford to host my own site. I have found Blogger a lot more better for what I want.

    I’m a new follower via Linky : )

  6. Hi! I’m a new blogger! Mind checking out my blog?(: And maybe possibly follow?(x
I don’t know why people are talking about WordPress. Clearly blogger is the best(x

  7. Well I moved from blogger to WordPress. lol I did enjoy blogger but I think overall wordpress seems to agree with me. That might be b/c html code is not extremely hard for me as well. But I am with you, I hope to move over to wordpress.org by the end of the year. So here is to hoping we can both make the move!

If you have any questions about wp.com let me know. I am also learning as I go but will gladly help you out. You can tweet me on twitter.

    Happy Friday!

  8. People seem to be back and forth on this one! Some like wordpress and don’t like blogger, others say the opposite! To me wordpress looked more confusing and blogger seemed more friendly for the less tech savvy. Which is definitely me! :)

    Here’s my Friday Hops

    Have a GREAT weekend!

    Old Follower :)

  9. I was on Blogger first, too. It took some time, and convincing, to get me to move over to WordPress.org with a self-hosted blog. But I gotta tell ya, the options are unlimited what you can do with it. Kindlefever and Letters Inside Out have some great how-to’s for that! And WordPress, once you get used to it, is SO AWESOME with all the widgets and plugins! <3333!
Thanks for stopping by on the hop and sorry for my delayed response!
