Review

Reconnaissance is book two in the New Dawn series, I loved book one, Colonization.

In Reconnaissance we get to read Nova as our main character. Nova is extremely jealous of Andromeda and recent events, she’s even more angrier that her own life partner Sirius chose to trust Andromeda over her, she’s humiliated that Sirius betrayed her that way. Nova’s off outside cooling her head when she hears an extremely loud noise; a noise that The New Dawn couldn’t possibly make. After going exploring she discovers a huge alien ship over Planet 21’s forest beaming up the crystals that the colony need to help sustain life on the planet.

Nova finds herself the expedition leader assigned to discovering what this alien ship wants and on the colony’s life to make a peace with it. With Sirius as the navigator and other highly qualified team members they make their way to the ship, only to get beamed into the ship themselves and realise that they just might be in a whole heap of danger.

I rather enjoyed reading how Nova and Sirius tried to survive the aliens. The arachnids as they called them were scary and grossed me out, yet interesting to read about as they were more than just spider looking creatures with brain sacks on  their backs. I liked that they had a bigger purpose and a whole back story, it added depth.

Although I found it hard to like Nova, I couldn’t quite connect with her. I felt sorry for her at the beginning when we learn her family isn’t as functional as everyone thinks but that’s only because she never lets anyone find out, but I hated how she pitied herself and thought she wasn’t good enough for Sirius to love. Considering he had only just declared his love for Andromeda not too long ago. It was nice getting to see where their relationship led them.

The aliens ship was interesting and I had fun reading the action and the ending but I did feel like it was a little bit slow to start off with. Once the story progressed the pace took off and I found myself wanting to read more and more.

Overall I enjoyed Reconnaissance, I’m interested in seeing where this story goes. Especially after all of the hints that happened near the end of this book!

Review

ReAwakened definitely delivered! More characterisation, more butt kicking, an intense romance and a fun read.

ReAwakened occurs soon after the first book; ReVamped, finishes. The Misfits – as Dawn has named them – the group of vampire’s that Dawn was assigned to train up as Angel Creek’s new vampire guardian’s to replace the old ‘Fab Five’, are now being awarded as official Guardians. Although down the track things don’t go quite as one would think. There are rumours that Born vampires are going missing yet there are no solid leads, until Sebastian goes missing along with a Born. That’s not all Dawn has to deal with; Something has ‘reawakened’ inside of her and is not happy; she has to deal with Razor, a sexy vampire that brings much humour and, well, sexiness; and just when she thinks everything will be alright the unimaginable happens.

This book has grown a lot from the first book and I loved getting to see that; getting to see the growth from book one to book two was very satisfying. I loved getting to learn more about ‘The Misfits’, I have to say that Hunter is my favourite character; there’s just something so alluring about him. It was nice getting to see everyone’s personalities more and getting to connect with them. Dawn grew more as a woman, a leader and learnt how to be a real friend. Sebastian is as sexy and swoon worthy as ever, then we have Razor whom is not only sexy in looks but also in humour. He had me giggling. A lot.

ReAwakened is action packed, there is so much going on in this book. So much that there were a few times that I thought it was the end but then bam something else happened and I was carried away again. While I felt there were a few predictable moments, there were definitely more moments where I was flabbergasted, blushing madly or laughing my ass off. The ending made my jaw drop, I couldn’t believe it really. I still don’t believe it. The ending has me thinking about book three for sure.

I really can’t wait to see what happens next!

Summary

“Forbidden love on a paradise planet that’s anything but paradise…Dionne’s Colonization will keep you guessing.” – Cherie Reich, author of Defying Gravity

Finding a new home has never been so dangerous.

Andromeda has spent all seventeen years of her life aboard a deep space transport vessel destined for a paradise planet. Her safe cocoon is about to break open as Paradise 21 looms only one month away, and she must take the aptitude tests to determine her role on the new world and her computer assigned lifemate. As a great-granddaughter of the Commander of the ship, she wants to live up to her family name. But, her forbidden love for her childhood friend, Sirius, distracts her and she fails the tests. The results place her in a menial role in the new colony and pair her with Corvus, “the oaf”.

But when Andromeda steps foot on Paradise 21, her predestined future is the least of her worries. Alien ghosts from a failed colonization warn her of a deadly threat to her colony. And when Sirius’s ship crashes on the far ridge in an attempt to investigate, she journeys to rescue him with Corvus.

Andromeda now must convince the authorities of the imminent danger to protect her new home. What she didn’t expect was a battle of her own feelings for Sirius and Corvus.

Can she save the colony and discover her true love?

Review

When I first read the summary for Colonization I got extremely excited because I absolutely love science fiction and I love space. So I found this idea to be very appealing and interesting.

The New Dawn is a space ship that left old earth generations ago in search for a new viable planet to live on. It’s destined to land on Paradise 21, a planet covered in forest, that is liveable and has no threats. Well so all the tests thought. Andromeda is a teenage girl that is about to take the exams that assign her to her profession, which she must stick to for the rest of her life, and to her life mate, whom she has no decision in choosing.

Andromeda has never really studied hard, she would rather hang out with her best friend Seth whom she realises she has forbidden feelings for. She is terrified of what life will be like when The New Dawn lands on Paradise 21. All she wants is to live her life she’s already living and spend her days with Seth drifting in outer space. Unfortunately for Andromeda that’s not how life is to be. She gets assigned a menial job and her lifemate isn’t Seth.

When The New Dawn lands on Paradise 21 everyone is ecstatic, except Andromeda. What makes things worse is she starts seeing weird alien beings that no one else can see and no one believes what she’s seeing is real.

Colonization is a young adult science fiction book that had me speeding through the pages wanting to find out what happened next, what decision Andromeda made, and wondering if what she was seeing was real. Were there really ghosts? Was she going crazy? Who was going to believe her? I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It had me hooked. It was just the right mix of adventure, action, romance, and science fiction!

I thought the romance was extremely sweet in places. It had me smiling and giggling to myself as I read. The pace was just right, I was always interested in what was going on and I wanted to know what happened next. I found it difficult to put this book down to be honest. Which was okay because I finished it faster that way.

Overall, I really loved this book. It was exciting, entertaining, the romance was sweet and I read this book extremely fast because I was so invested. I thoroughly enjoyed it and couldn’t help but be taken along for the ride.

Colonization is an exciting young adult science fiction book with a side of sweet romance. It has you gasping, giggling, smiling and keeps you glued to the pages until you’re finished!

I definitely recommend reading this book if you enjoy young adult science fiction romance!
