[Sunday Catch Up] May 27th – June 2nd

Sunday Catch Up with Miss Book Reviews

[Sunday Catch Up is a weekly post where I look at the week in review]

This whole week has been a blur. Not because I’ve been busy (Well I have been, but that’s not the point), but mostly because I’ve felt tired all week and feel like I’ve been on autopilot… Sometimes you just feel burnt out and want a week or two to get everything back in order.
Week in Review

On Tuesday: Review of The Eternity Cure (Which I LOVED)
On Thursday:
Review of Taken at Dusk (I highly enjoyed with a few frustrating aspects)
On Saturday: Review of the four Throne of Glass eNovellas (You will have to read this to hear my opinions; overall: pretty meh)
Miss Book Reviews NEWSI am going to start posting a new feature next week! It’s called [I Admit:] and is basically a more candid discussion post where I admit my bookish opinions on a variety of topics. The discussion posts are more personal opinionated rather than a view coming from all sides.
I Admit - Miss Book Reviews FeatureThis post won’t be weekly as I will be mixing these in with regular discussion posts, or rather regular discussion posts will branch off from these personal posts.

In Other News...In other news: I still have to urge to go travelling around Europe and live in Paris and learn French. So I’m still feeling wildly unrealistic.

I bought new lipstick the other day! Fact: I have never bought lipstick before. I do not know why I have never bought lipstick, I own crappy $2 red lipstick which I needed for my ballet recitals when I was younger (Which was bought for me). So I would wear that and try to pull it off. It didn’t really work though because it was just horrible, cheap lipstick. So when I found there was a deal for two lipsticks for the price of one I decided to try them out.

[‘Love That Pink’ lipstick colour] My exaggerated ‘duckface’. My jaw hurt for quite a while afterwards because of trying to hold that face…

Note: I do not normally make such faces in photos haha.

I’ve been a little slack in my acting class recently, mainly because I’ve been having a lot of trouble finding scenes to get up and do. So if anyone has seen any good scenes for a female around the age of 15 – 25 (Apparently I can pull off those ages, ten years seems to be a lot though…), flick me a comment or an email to check out the episode/movie you saw it in! I’m seriously dying over here. And we only perform it in front of the class, the class is a little like a scene class.

Hope you’ve have an awesome week!

Sunday Catch Up with Miss Book Reviews

[Sunday Catch Up is a weekly post where I look at the week in review]

I know. I missed last week!

On May 18th: Review on Shadows by Ilsa J. Bick
On May 20th: Cover Reveal for Antithesis by Kacey Vanderkarr
In Other News...
Soo the only reason I haven’t been posting a lot in the past couple of weeks is just because I haven’t been juggling my time too well. And I’ve been reading more, writing posts less, and been all around too lazy to finish formatting the posts to have ready. I feel bad about this.

I guess also recently I’ve been wondering what I’m doing with my life. And that is such a huge topic to think about that every time I come near my blog I kind of just turn off and pick up a book instead. After all reading lets me escape from my real life worries; but it also means I’m running away from facing the bigger questions.

What am I doing with my life right now? Answer: I have no idea. But I know I should be discovering the answer instead of having my face buried in a book every time I think about it. I guess it’s a depressing subject that I would like help with yet I have no idea who to ask.

I’m currently reading Anna and the French Kiss and all I can think about is packing up and moving to Paris. For what reason? Adventure. Fun. Something different. New Experiences. Live my life more. I could finally learn French which I’ve wanted to do since I started high school, but my high school didn’t offer it as a language so I never did get to learn it. Or bother with it again.

Of course I’m not serious about moving to Paris, I mean what would I do in Paris? I don’t even know what I do now in New Zealand. I’ve never had the need to move to Paris, but this book certainly makes me want to. If only I had the rhyme, reason, will, finance, drive and need to. I already have the want.

So if I continue to post things up slowly that is exactly the reason why.

Sunday Catch Up with Miss Book Reviews

[Sunday Catch Up is a weekly post where I look at the week in review]

.
What a week. Busy. Raining. Cold. Work was stressful. Class was motivating.

I have read quite a bit this week! I received the stack of chick lit and contemporary books that I requested from the library last week, on Monday, so I’ve powered through those. They’re surprisingly easy to read. But also I found it a little hard to really love any of them. I’ve never really read stand alone books before, because when I do I’ve never really felt like there’s a reason to get invested into the story since it’s just going to end at the end of the book. I have weird logic.
Week in Review

On Wednesday: Review of Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laine Taylor
On Friday: Cover Reveal for Secrets of the Moon by Kristi Centeno
On Saturday: Review of Eona by Alison Goodman
Book News - Miss Book ReviewsJennifer L. Armentrout revealed the cover for her new Adult book Obsession, which is based in the same universe as her Lux series. I’m not sure if I will get to this book as at the moment I’m not a huge reader for the Adult genre. That cover though? o_o

Veronica Roth has revealed the cover for Allegiant. Oh my goodness, I have to say I really love the colours they’ve used!

Lauren Oliver announces that unfortunately the Delirium TV pilot was not picked up by Fox TV. It’s sad news to hear that.
Book to Movie News - Miss Book ReviewsThe trailer for Enders Game has been released! See below [Thanks to Asti for informing me on how to add videos to posts!]

What do you think? Have you read the book? I’m excited to see what they’ve done but a little disappointed we didn’t really get to see inside the ‘Game’ that Ender plays.

I’m definitely excited to see this!
In Other News...

Happy Mothers Day to all the mothers out there! Are you doing anything special with your mum or your family? My mum’s currently visiting my grandma so when she gets back we’re just gonna do dinner.

At the beginning of the week I was powering through books, now all I want to do is watch T.V… But since I have so many books out from the library I really need to read them. I’m just finding it hard to pick up another one at the moment :/

[Sunday Catch Up] April 29th – May 5th

Sunday Catch Up with Miss Book Reviews

[Sunday Catch Up is a weekly post where I look at the week in review]

.
Another full on week! Another failed week of non written discussion posts. I seriously have a whole list of discussion post ideas in my head. Just no time to put them on paper…
Week in Review
On Tuesday: Top Ten [Seven] topics that make me pick up a book
On Wednesday:
Cover Reveal for  Deadly Gamble by Shirley Kennedy
On Saturday:
Review of Belles by Jen Calonita
Book to Movie News - Miss Book Reviews
Harrison Ford and Asa Butterfield introduce the date for the release of the trailer to Enders Game! I’m actually rather excited to see how this film will be adapted to screen, in this day and age we have the technology for it to look extra cool and believable. I really liked the book, I did feel like some of it was over my head at the time, but I still enjoyed it.
Book to Movie - Miss Book Reviews[I decided to put this under a different title as this wasn’t released in the past week]

Soo I think I may have been the last book blogger to have seen the complete Mortal Instruments Trailer… Seriously… I only just remembered to youtube it to see if it was out…. Slow much?

Wow. The trailer looks action packed. So action packed that I seriously wonder if they fit the whole movie into the space of  2:32… Don’t get me wrong, it looks exciting, it’s just there is so much going on in the trailer that it makes me wonder if the movie will be ten hours long. I get that feeling because there are so many different scenes, different snippets and different locations that I’m guessing this movie is going to be fast paced and all go, go, go, or just long in length.

I’m definitely excited to see it! But I’m also thinking I should read City of Ashes first just in case the end of the film gives away something to the next book.
In Other News...After reading a lot of people’s top ten lists about what words or topics make them pick up or buy a book this week, I suddenly wanted to read books with happy endings, are probably full of fluff, and generally just make me feel good or happy. So I requested a bunch of books from the library that sounded like just what I needed. Now I have seven books to read before going back to my original TBR pile…

Now. Recently I have seen this certain acronym around a lot. I mean a lot. And I have no idea what it means. None of the posts or comments that have it first mention what it means, they just throw it in a sentence and assume everyone just knows. Well I must be the only person that is clueless so when it’s sitting there in the middle of the sentence I stop and spend a good amount of time trying to figure out what on earth it stands for. As of this moment I still have no idea. I’m obviously not very good at putting clues together. Or using google.

The acronym? HEA.

Soo I have H-something E-something Attraction?
Head-over hEels Attraction?
Huge Enormous Attraction? Err…
Hype rElated Awesomeness?
Hyped Earful Attraction?…
I definitely feel like I’m completely off the mark here. And possibly stupid for not having figured it out yet…

If someone could please enlighten me on this that would be amazing. I’m feeling a tad silly having no idea what everyone talks about when they say ‘HEA’ and then go on to have full conversations on the HEA of characters or topics…

P.S. If you’re wondering why I never post the actual trailers or other video’s  in the posts it’s because unfortunately as I am not self hosted yet wordpress.com does not allow it due to security reasons.Follow MBR on Bloglovin'

[Sunday Catch Up] April 22nd – 28th

Sunday Catch Up with Miss Book Reviews

[Sunday Catch Up is a weekly post where I look at the week in review]

.
Do you ever sit down and plan to write a few posts to schedule in the coming weeks so then when you’re busy at work or doing other things your blog doesn’t suffer? I had planned to do that this week, but wow I have been way too busy to even sit down and reply to comments let alone write posts. I’ve even been too busy to reply to messages friends let alone blog. Sometimes I do wonder if my time management skills aren’t always the best..

So this week and probably the next couple will be a little more bare than I had planned.
Week in ReviewOn Tuesday: Top Ten Books I thought I would like more than I did
On Wednesday:
[Review] Demon Glass by Rachel Hawkins
On Saturday:
[Review] Born at Midnight by C.C. Hunter

Book NewsGraceling is being made into a movie!! This is news to me! I’m going to assume its news to other people as well. Graceling as a movie?! I loved Graceling, I loved the world, I loved Katsa and Po; mostly. I really do hope they don’t butcher the book, but I am super excited to see how it will be translated to screen! How do you feel about a Graceling being made into a movie?

Jennifer L. Armentrout revealed the blurb of her new adult book; Obsession, which is based in the same world as the Lux series!
In Other News...I finally received my pre-order of The Eternity Cure! I am so excited! I had meant to start reading it at the beginning of the week but I’ve been so busy that I’ve also hardly had a chance to read, so the book I thought I would have finished by then ended up taking a lot longer to get through.

How does everyone keep on top of writing posts and working/studying? I seriously feel like I’m the only one that sometimes has to cram a writing-post-session at midnight so I have a post for the next day but because I’m really fussy about the way my posts look, it takes me quite a time to have it ready.

This feels like a short catch-up this week. Hope your week has been less stressful!

[Sunday Catch Up] April 15th – 21st

Sunday Catch Up with Miss Book Reviews

[Sunday Catch Up is a weekly post where I look at the week in review]

.

This is my very first Sunday Catch Up post! This post is inspired by the many recap posts that nearly everyone is now doing (I love it!). These posts will recap the week on Miss Book Reviews as well as have anything else book related that I may wish to share; for example:

Book News: Where I will post interesting book related news that happened in the week.
Interesting Posts: Where I will link to interesting book related posts that I found in the book blogosphere.
MBR News: Where I will spill the secrets of Miss Book Reviews – Or inform you of new happenings.
Other News: Any news to do with anything!

Week in ReviewThis week was a quiet week for me in regards to posts going live. I was actually planning and sorting out some sort of schedule that I would like to follow from now on because I have a ton of reviews to get up but I want to mix up my posts with discussions and possibly other features or meme’s. I just have so many ideas that won’t form into words!

With winter nearly upon us here in New Zealand it looks like I will have more time on my hands than I did in the summer; meaning more time to write, brainstorm, comment and research for posts!

This week in review:

Discussion: Oh you invisible eBooks! (Not really considered this week but…)
Review Request: A Shade of Vampire by Bella Forrest

Book News

  • One huge lot of book news this week is that Veronica Roth released the title for book 3 in the Divergent series! So exciting! I have yet to read Insurgent because I didn’t want to painstakingly wait for book 3 to be published but now I’m thinking I will just have to deal; I’m going to read Insurgent very soon. Want to know book 3’s title? Highlight this: Allegiant.<<<
  • The Catching Fire teaser trailer was released. And wow. The emotions that arose in me while watching this were just… Well. Hopelessness. I felt an overwhelming sadness. The movie itself looks like it’s going to be awesome. I just love Jennifer Lawrence! What do you think of the teaser trailer?
  • The trailer for the new Romeo and Juliet Movie was released. I’ve only just heard about this movie actually and I have to say the trailer makes it look like a very dramatic, serious and epic film. I love that they didn’t modernize it. I also have to admit the language isn’t lost on me like Shakespeare usually is *Hangs head in shame*. What do you think of this movie? Do you prefer the modernized movie made in 1996 with Leonardo Di Caprio? Would you see this new Romeo and Juliet in theatres?
  • Seriously though; from watching the trailer I really want to see this adaptation if only to see the performances. Hailee Steinfeld (Juliet) looks rather young but I’m interested in seeing how she does. I saw her in True Grit, which I believe was her breakout film, and I liked her so I’m excited to see her in this. From looking at her IMDB page she is in HOT demand! So many up and coming projects. She obviously impressed other people in hollywood too.
  • And just after looking at Hailee Steinfeld‘s credentials I just realised she’s playing Petra in the Enders Game movie adaptation! I can be pretty slow sometimes…

I have to say that trailers always get me when they have a strong soundtrack. Every single one of those trailers I mentioned above have very strong soundtracks, the music sounds epic and just awesome. I find strong music in trailers make me feel emotional, even if it’s not a heart breaking video! Does anyone else feel that or am I just weird?…
In Other News...

In other news: Right now there’s a thunder storm outside that makes me want to switch off all of the lights and curl up in bed under the covers where I know I will be safe. Well at least I will feel safe.

I quite like thunder and lightning storms, we don’t get very bad ones in New Zealand so there’s never (well very rarely) any danger. They’re thrilling; when you’re not home alone or the only one left awake…

Which I am. Right now.

I’m the only person left awake in the house. Thunder storms can feel kind of scary when you’re experiencing it alone. Especially when the thunder is so loud it shakes the house. Which just happened. Maybe I take back my statement about liking thunder storms… Does anyone else feel the same way about this? No? Ahhh man.
